Microneedling: A waste of money?

Microneedling has become one of the most commonly performed procedure in the U.S. Why? For starters, it is very simple to perform and requires almost no training. It does not require one purchasing expensive equipment. It is low risk–there is rarely ever a complication. Sounds great, no?

No. Because you have not heard the entire story. Is microneeding for you? Is microneedling worth it? Is it worth the pain? Is microneedling worth the price?

In most cases the answers are no, no , no, and no. Why? Let’s start at the end first and look at results. No matter what you are treating (i.e. acne scars or wrinkles), the results are nearly always less than nearly every other treatment available. So, no matter what you pay, you are not getting your money’s worth. In short, you would nearly always be better off spending your money on something else.

Well, what’s better? Well, that depends upon what you are treating. Wrinkles or acne scars. If the latter, what specific type of acne scar.

Microneedling is not a “bad” treatment. In fact, it works will when used in combination with something else. Microneedling with radiofrequency works fairly well for skin tightening, wrinkle treatment, some acne scars, and stretch mark treatment. Microneedling with PRP or PRF also can work well for the treatment of these conditions.
