What is the best toxin? Botox? Daxxify? Dysport?

This is a funny topic because everybody has an opinion. Many patients “prefer” one product over the other based on a single experience. While one experience may be worse than others, that does not always mean that it will always be worse. For example, many of us have gone to a great restaurant and had a mediocre meal. When going back, the food was great over and over. Sometimes a single experience does not mean that the “product” is not as good. Sometimes there are other factors–the product was mixed a while ago and is not as potent, injection differences, etc. In many of these cases the provider (i.e. Doctor) most often blames the product by saying, “I guess you just do better with the other product”, rather then blaming themselves or their process.

Let’s look at the facts:

All of the toxins are good products and work well. The shorter acting Botox and Dysport last 3-4 months and onset is 4-7 days with full effects seen at 1-2 weeks. Daxxify starts working faster by 1-2 days and full results by 5 days in most. Results typically last 5-9 months.

So, which is better?

Double blinded studies, where the provider nor the patient knew what product was used has showed that Botox and Dysport satisfaction rates were equal. That is correct. One was not better than the other. Botox results were seen a little faster than Dysport, but the products worked equally well and lasted equally as long.

In a study comparing Botox versus Daxxify, most patients preferred Daxxify over Botox. At 5 months, 72% of Daxxify patients had high sustained satisfaction compared with 18% with Botox.
